AUSTIN, TX (10.29.16) - The UT Dallas men's cross country team recorded its best-ever finish at the American Southwest Conference Championships Saturday, placing second at the event held on the Balcones-Spicewood Cross Country Course hosted by Concordia Texas.

The Comets were paced by senior
Brenton Heble, who claimed first team All-ASC honors for the second straight season by placing fifth overall in a time of 28:06 in the eight-kilometer race. Sophomore
Alireza Nourani and freshman
Blake Stroud each picked up second team honors by finishing 11th and 13th, respectively. Nourani, last year's ASC Freshman of the Year, finished in a time of 28:33 while Stroud had a time of 28:41.
Nathan Musial (28:47) placed 16th while
John Gabriel (29:06) rounded out the top five Comets in 19th place. This marks the first time in program history that UTD has placed five runners among the top 20.
Texas-Tyler claimed its seventh straight ASC title, finishing the meet with 35 points. The Comets tallied 61 points for second place while McMurry was a close third with 67 points. UTD's previous best finish in the ASC Championships was third, accomplished in 2013 and 2015.
McMurry's Michael Benoit claimed individual honors by winning the 83-runner race in a time of 26:34.
Next up for the Comets is the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regional Meet, hosted by Berry College in Mount Berry, Ga., on Saturday, Nov. 12.
