BROWNWOOD, TX (02.23.17) - The UT Dallas women's basketball team picked up its 10th consecutive win as the Comets advanced to the semifinals of the American Southwest Conference Tournament with a 72-61 victory over Sul Ross State in the opening round Thursday afternoon at the Brownwood Coliseum.

The Comets (23-3) are headed back to the ASC's Final Four after a year away and will face Mary Hardin-Baylor at 5 p.m. Friday. UTD, the top seed out of the ASC's East Division, will be playing for a third trip to the ASC title game in the last five seasons.

Micaela Gonzalez set a new ASC Quarterfinal record for rebounds as she pulled downed a career-high 18 boards in Thursday's win. Gonzalez added 14 points as one of four Comets in double digits, recording her fourth 'double-double' of the season. Senior

The Comets easily handled SRSU in the opening half, doubling up the Lobos, 44-22, at the break. However, the Lobos would not go away without a fight in their first-ever appearance in the ASC Tournament. SRSU clawed within 11 points late in the third quarter, 54-43, and later cracked single digits in the final frame, drawing within seven points in the final minute.
UTD used an early 9-0 run to take control of the opening quarter and led the Lobos, 18-11, after first 10 minutes of play. The Comets then dominated the second quarter, outscoring SRSU, 26-11, as Crockett took over with eight points in the frame to lead UTD to its 22-point halftime advantage.
The Comets shot just 36.9 percent (24-of-65) from the field in the win, hitting just 4-of-23 three-pointers (17.4%), and shot 74.1 percent (20-of-27) from the free-throw line. UTD dominated the boards, out-rebounding the Lobos, 50-35, and forced 16 turnovers.
