Shane Shewmake

Shane Shewmake began the UT Dallas baseball program in 2002 and has never had a losing record in the 24-year history of the program.
 
Shewmake’s squads have collected at least 20 victories each season with the exception of the COVID-19 shortened 2020 campaign. Shewmake led the Comets to back-to-back 30-win seasons and American Southwest Conference titles in 2021 and 2022. The Comets also won the ASC crown in 2018. He is a three-time ASC Coach of the Year (2004, 2012, 2017) and boasts a 650-370 (.637) all-time record and 319-182 (.637) mark against ASC opponents.
 
Over his 23 years at UTD, Shewmake has mentored nine All-Americans, 39 All-Region selections and 118 All-ASC honorees. His squads have qualified for the ASC Championship Tournament 20 times, advancing to nine title games, and made four trips to the NCAA Division III National Tournament (2007, 2018, 2021, 2022).

A native of Clyde, Shewmake came to UTD after spending three-plus seasons as an assistant coach at McMurry University in Abilene, Texas. Prior to that, he was the head baseball coach at Eastfield College in Mesquite, Texas from 1993-97.

Shewmake began his collegiate playing career at Eastfield College and also played at Hardin-Simmons University and Arkansas State University. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Arkansas State in 1992, and later earned his master’s degree from East Texas State University (now Texas A&M-Commerce).
