We are committed to the academic excellence and well-being of our student-athletes. Through connecting student-athletes with academic resources here at The University of Texas at Dallas, it is our goal that student-athletes not only graduate, but get the most out of their academic experience. Student-athletes face unique academic challenges, and our office is here to assist with those challenges by forging relationships with support offices around campus to help better connect our students with the UTD community.

Excused Absence Policy:
Pursuant to UTDSP5018 (
https://policy.utdallas.edu/utdsp5018), students participating in University-Sanctioned activities that follow the respective department's requirements have the right to receive, and the instructor has the responsibility to provide, academic accommodations. These requirements will vary across units, but notice to each of the student's course instructors must be given by the student as early as possible at the beginning of the semester to provide enough planning for the faculty and student. In instances where travel dates are determined during the semester or as part of post-season competition, students should notify the faculty member within 7 days, or more, if practical, from when the conflict with a course is determined.Â
Â
It is the responsibility of student-athletes at UTD to properly notify professors that they may miss certain assignments, examinations, and class attendance while representing UTD in a university-sanctioned intercollegiate competition.
For each class, a student-athlete is required to meet with their professors (virtually or in-person) during the first two weeks of the semester to introduce themselves.
Student-athletes are also asked to reach out one week before each of these anticipated missed classes to remind their professor(s) of their absence and to make sure they are properly making up their missed assignments.
Student-athletes must never ask for an excused absence due to practice.
If student-athletes do not follow the guidelines listed above, they risk not being accommodated for their absences, which can negatively impact their GPA and potential future athletic eligibility.
Chi Alpha Sigma
Chi Alpha Sigma at UT Dallas
Chi Alpha Sigma (CAS) is a national nonprofit organization that was established to recognize four-year college student-athletes who excel both on and off the field of competition. The UT Dallas Rho Chapter of CAS is committed to promoting academic success among student-athletes.
CAS is composed of a president and student-athlete members who possess at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA, at least junior academic standing after their fourth full-time semester, and an endorsement from the head coach of his/her sport(s). Transfer students who are at junior academic standing may be eligible for induction if they meet the above criteria and have been at UTD for one academic year, and transfer students who are in senior academic standing may be eligible for induction after one full time semester. Graduate students are not eligible for induction.
