SHERMAN, TX (12.21.16) - The UT Dallas women's basketball team completed a season sweep of non-conference rival Austin College Wednesday afternoon with a 57-50 victory over the 'Roos.
The Comets (7-2) held an opponent to 50 points or fewer for the third time this season as they extended their winning streak to five games with Wednesday's victory. UTD returns to action Dec. 30-31 when the Comets host the UTD Classic. The Comets will face the University of Chicago and Milwaukee School of Engineering at the event, held at the UTD Activity Center.
UTD entered the game as the American Southwest Conference's leader in scoring defense, allowing 53.1 points per game, and lowered that average by limiting Austin College to 36.2 percent (17-of-47) from the from the field and 3-for-13 (23.1%) from three-point range, forcing 24 turnovers.
Alyssa Crockett topped 20 points for the third time this season with a game-high 23 points on 7-of-16 shooting from the field and perfect 8-for-8 accuracy from the foul line.
Micaela Gonzalez was the only other Comet in double figures with 12 points.
Kayla Reinhart finished with seven points and a game-best 10 rebounds.
The Comets controlled the early stages of the game, securing a 15-11 lead the end of the opening quarter. However, Austin College responded in the second half, outscoring UTD 16-12 in the period, to knot the game, 27-27, at the break.
After trading leads early in the third quarter, the Comets used an 11-2 run in the frame to take back control and never trailed in the fourth period.
UTD shot 41.8 percent (23-of-55) from the field, hitting just 2-of-12 three-pointers (16.7%), and were 9-of-14 (64.3%) from the free-throw line.
