RICHARDSON, TX (12.31.16) - The UT Dallas women's basketball team held yet another opponent under 50 points Saturday afternoon as the Comets earned a 75-41 home win over Milwaukee School of Engineering to close the UTD Classic.
The Comets (9-2) have now won seven straight contests and will look for eight in a row Thursday when they return to American Southwest Conference to host McMurry. Game time is 5:30 p.m. at the UTD Activity Center.
UTD outscored the Raiders, 21-9, in the opening quarter and never looked back as the Comets finished the game shooting 46.2 percent from the floor and hit 7-of-16 three-pointers.
Kayla Reinhart recorded her first double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds, both game highs, while
Alyssa Crockett and
Victoria Pena each contributed 12 points in the victory. UTD point guard
Zavier Landry dished out a game-best seven assists.
The Comets continue their hot start into the second quarter, scoring the first five points of the frame to take a 17-point advantage, 26-9, with 9:14 left in
the half. The Raiders drew within 10 points after a 7-0 run over teh next two minutes before UTD regained composure to take a 21-point lead, 46-25, into the locker room.
UTD grabbed its first 30-point lead late in the third as Reinhart hit a jumper to lift the Comets to a 62-31 lead with 1:48 in the frame and did not lead by fewer than 29 points in the entire fourth quarter.
The Comets were 30-of-65 from the field and were 8-of-11 (72.7%) from the foul line. UTD is not holding opponents to 50.9 points per game, through 11 contests.
