Strong First Half Pushes Comets Past Concordia Texas, 69-55

RICHARDSON, TX (12.07.16) - The UT Dallas women's basketball team shot nearly 60 percent from the field in the opening period as the Comets earned a 69-55 home win over Concordia Texas Wednesday night in American Southwest Conference play.

The Comets (4-2, 2-0 ASC) earned back-to-back wins for the first time this season and will look for three in a row when they return to action on Dec. 17 when they visit Howard Payne as part of three road games in five days.

Micaela Gonzalez led all scorers with 21 points while Alyssa Crockett added 14 points and Kayla Reinhart finished with 10 points to round out the Comets in double figures. Point guard Zavier Landry notched a solid all-around performance with six points, six assists and a game-high eight rebounds.

UTD stormed out of the gate and took a 28-9 lead on the visiting Tornados after the first quarter of play. The Comets were 10-of-17 (58.8%) from the field as a team in the first 10 minutes of the contest to grab control of the game and would secure a 47-25 at the break. UTD cooled off the in the second half, hitting just 9-of-28 shots (32.1%) after halftime, but would finish the game with 18 forced turnovers to hold on for the victory.

The Comets scored the first six points of the game and grabbed its first double-digit lead of the night at the 4:13 mark of the first period when a McKenzie Petty three-pointer gave UTD a 16-4 advantage. UTD would lead by as many as 20 points late in the period before taking a 22-point lead into the locker room. The Comets widened its margin to as many as 31 points twice late in the third quarter.

The Comets finished the game shooting 41 percent (25-of-61) from the field, making 5-of-12 shots (41.7%) from three-point range.

For CTX (5-2, 0-2 ASC), Emily Culler had a team-high 19 points, hitting five three-pointers, and added six rebounds.
