ALPINE, TX (10.21.17) - The UT Dallas women's soccer team has its most conference wins since 2011 after the Comets sailed to a 4-0 road win over Sul Ross State Saturday afternoon in American Southwest Conference play.
The Comets (13-3, 8-2 ASC) remain in third place in the conference standings with Saturday's road win and need one victory over their final two contests to secure a first-round ASC Tournament game on Tuesday, Oct. 31.
UTD opened the scoring in the 15th minute with
Keely Fillman tallied on a redirect from
Jessica Rusk to give the Comets a quick 1-0 lead.
Melissa Fulfer then doubled the lead in the 25th minute with her first tally of the afternoon, knocking in a rebounded shot by teammate
Michelle Lee.
The Comets added two goals in the second half to complete the victory. Fulfer's second goal of the game came in the 57th minute, assisted by Jacquie Kafuman. Rusk then collected UTD's final goal in the 63rd minute, thanks to Fulfer's school-record tying 29th career assist.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
UTD ended the game with 19 shots, nine on frame, while the host Lady Lobos took 12 shots, six of which were on goal. The Comets posted their ninth shutout of the season.
With her assist on the Comets' final goal of the contest, Fulfer moved into a three-way tie for the UTD all-time record with 29 assists. Fulfer is now tied with former Comets Theresa Buckles and Leah Bowyer for the record. Fulfer currently ranks fifth all-time in both goals (31) and points (83).
Kaufman also climbed up the UTD assists list Saturday with her 26th career assist, moving into fourth place all-time.
