Comet Women Rally Past Blugolds, 56-51, to Close UTD Classic

RICHARDSON, TX (12.30.17) - Trailing by a point at the break, the UT Dallas women's basketball team clamped down in the third quarter en route to a 56-51 home win over Wisconsin-Eau Claire Saturday afternoon to wrap up the UTD Classic presented by Courtyard Marriott.

Down 28-27 after halftime, the Comets outscored UWEC, 13-8, in the third frame, limiting the Blugolds to just 2-of-13 shooting in the period as UTD took control of the defensive contest. Up by four heading to the final quarter, the Comets would hold the lead for the final 10 minutes of the game, holding off all rally attempts by UWEC. The Blugolds clawed within two points five times in the frame but would never regain the lead or even knot the ballgame.

With 4:16 left to play, UWEC drew within two points for the final time of the game at 48-46 after a Brooke Harris fast break layup, however the Comets would hold the Blugolds scoreless for nearly the next four minutes. UTD would ice the game by going 5-for-6 from the free-throw line over teh final 25 seconds.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Limiting UWEC to just 51 points, the Comets have now held eight of their 11 opponents this season under 60 points, going 8-0 in such contests. UTD held the Blugolds to just 31.0 percent (18-of-58) shooting for the game as UWEC hit just 5-of-25 (20%) of its three-point attempts.

The Comets scored 17 points off of 19 UWEC turnovers.

UTD shot 41.2 percent (21-of-51) from the field, hitting 4-of-13 three-pointers (30.8%), and were 10-of-13 (76.9%) from the free-throw line.

KEY PERFORMERS
Freshman Alex Boushey led the Comets with 16 points as the only UTD player to reach double figures in the victory. Boushey was 7-for-11 from the field, hitting one three-pointer, and added four steals and three assists. Victoria Pena and Madison Steele each added nine points while Kelley Skinner had six points and a game-high nine rebounds.

NEXT GAME
The Comets (9-2) will continue their five-game home stand Tuesday when they host Southwestern University in a non-conference affair. Game time is 5:30 p.m. at the UTD Activity Center.
