No. 25 Comets Pull Away Late in 81-65 Win Over LeTourneau

RICHARDSON, TX (02.16.17) - The No. 25-ranked UT Dallas women's basketball team secured its eighth consecutive win Thursday night as the Comets pulled away late for an 81-65 home win over LeTourneau in American Southwest Conference East Division play.

The Comets (21-3, 14-1 ASC) will look close out the regular season with a nine-game winning streak Saturday night when they host rival Texas-Tyler for Senior Day. Tip-off is 1 p.m. at the UTD Activity Center. After that game, seven seniors on the UTD squad will be recognized for their contributions to the program.

Alyssa Crockett finished the night with a career-best 26 points as she led three Comets in double-digit scoring. Kayla Reinhart added 19 points while Micaela Gonzalez had a 'double-double' with 18 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

UTD led the majority of the game, but it wasn't until the final quarter that the Comets found any breathing room. After trading leads early in the game, UTD took the lead for good with 5:31 left in the opening quarter but had to hold off the YellowJackets for most of the night. The Comets extended their lead to as many as seven points early in the second quarter and nine points within the first minute of the second half, but it wouldn't be until the final frame when UTD would pull away for good.

The visiting YellowJackets cut the UTD lead back to one point late in the third quarter, 52-51, but the Comets answered with a 5-0 run over the next two minutes before taking a 59-53 lead into the final period. The Comets then outscored LETU, 22-12, in the final 10 minutes, dominating the boards en route to yet another double-digit victory.

UTD took its first double-digit lead of the night with 5:59 left to play when Gonzalez gave the Comets a 71-60 advantage. The YellowJackets never got any closer for the remainder of the contest.

The Comets finished the night shooting 46.9 percent (30-of-64) from the field, connecting on 7-of-23 three-pointers (30.4%), and shot just 63.6 percent (14-of-22) from the foul line. UTD out-rebounded the YellowJackets, 46-30.
