LONGVIEW, TX (01.13.18) - The red-hot UT Dallas women's basketball team turned a one-point halftime lead into a 28-point road victory Saturday afternoon as the Comets rolled past LeTourneau, 76-48, in American Southwest Conference East Division play.
Leading 28-27 at the break, the Comets outscored LETU, 26-8, in the third quarter en route to the program's seventh straight victory. UTD would finish the game with a 22-13 advantage over the YellowJackets in the final frame as the Comets picked up their fourth 20-point win of the season.
The Comets opened the second half on a 10-0 run, capped by a free throw by
Ja'Lee Carver, giving UTD an 11-point cushion, 38-27, with 6:17 left in the third. The Comets widened their third-quarter advantage to as many as 21 points, 54-33, late the period, and then led by no fewer than 17 points throughout the final stanza.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
UTD ended the contest shooting 37.1 percent (26-of-7) form the field, matching a season-high with nine three-pointers. The Comets dominated the boards, out-rebounding LETU, 52-38, and scored 24 points off of 17 YellowJacket turnovers.
The Comets' 28-point margin of victory was the second-highest by the squad this season.
KEY PERFORMERS
Victoria Pena led the Comets with 23 points, hitting 8-of-16 shots from the field and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. She added four rebounds and three assists.
Kelley Skinner added a season-high 20 points while grabbing a team-best nine rebounds.
McKenzie Petty came off the bench for 10 points, eight in the opening half.

The Comets (12-2, 6-1 ASC) return home Thursday to host rival Texas-Tyler in a key ASC East contest. Game time is 5:30 p.m. at the UTD Activity Center.
