ABILENE, TX (11.02.18) - The UT Dallas women's soccer team advanced to semifinal round of the American Southwest Conference Tournament for the 17th consecutive season, but a 10th trip to the league's title match was not in the cards as the Comets were handed a 2-0 loss to Mary Hardin-Baylor Friday night on the campus of tournament-host Hardin-Simmons.
The Comets (16-2-1) suffered just their second loss of the season and first shutout since the 2016 campaign with the defeat in Friday's semifinal contest and will now have to wait and see if they can earn a second-ever at large berth into the NCAA Division III National Tournament. The selection show is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. (Central) on Monday, Nov. 5.
After a scoreless opening half, the Cru struck first in the 47th minute as Caitlyn Shaughnessy lifted UMHBÂ to a 1-0 advantage just 1:16 into the second period. The Cru added a second tally in the 70th minute, taking advantage of a UTD own goal.
The second-seeded Comets took 12 shots in the loss, five of which were on frame, compared to 18 shots by No. 3 seed UMHB. The Cru had seven shots on frame with UTD keeper
Monica Dallacasa adding to her career record with five saves.
