SEGUIN, TX (03.15.18) - The UT Dallas softball team suffered a pair of losses at the hand of No. 2-ranked Texas Lutheran Thursday night in the second of three days at the Bulldog Classic.
The Comets (6-9) close their Spring Break trip Friday with a 12 p.m. with La Verne before returning home.
GAME 1 - TLU 11, UTD 2 (5 inn.)
The host Bulldogs posted a quick 7-0 lead on UTD after two innings en route to an 11-2, five-inning victory in the first game of the twin bill.
Down 7-0 in the top of the 4th, the Comets got on the board with a two-run homer by
Lauryn Manning, her first of the season and second of her career. However, the Bulldogs answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning to secure the run-rule victory.
Manning finished the game 2-for-2 with two RBI.
GAME 2 - TLU 2, UTD 1
The Comets battled in a much closer game in the night cap, even placing the go-ahead run on base in the top of the 7th in a 2-1 loss to TLU.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring with a single run in the 3rd and double their lead to 2-0 with another run in the 6th.
UTD would open the of the 7th with back-to-back walks drawn by Manning and
Kynsee Gesch. After a wild pitch by the Bulldogs hurler,
Kendra Litchfield got the Comets on the board with an RBI single, scoring pinch-runner Kenneday Zimmerman. However, UTD would strand two runners on base to end the game.
Karen Crane (4-4) scattered seven hits while collecting a season-high four strikeouts. The Comets managed just two hits off of TLU's Maitlin Raycroft as Litchfield and
Stefanie Polderman each went 1-for-2.
