Comets Even Record With Monday Sweep of Mount St. Mary

RICHARDSON, TX (03.26.18) - The UT Dallas softball team improved to 11-11 on the season Monday after taking both ends of a non-conference doubleheader against Mount St. Mary, 8-2 and 6-1.

GAME 1 - UTD 8, MSM 2
The Comets used late offense to rally for an 8-2 win in Monday's opener after falling behind 2-0 to the Knights.

UTD plated five runs on seven hits in the 5th an added three more runs on four hits in the 6th to turnaround the game and early the victory. Allie Stephens (3-4) picked up the win, giving up two unearned runs on just four hits with five strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work.

Down 2-0, the Comets got on the board in the 5th with an RBI single by Elizabeth Brann, scoring Melissa Livermore from second base. UTD then took the lead with a two-run homer by Amber Williams, her second of the season, and added two more runs on a double to the wall by Samantha Halliburton. Lauryn Manning used a RBI double to score Brann in the 6th to lift the Comets to take a 6-2 lead and Halliburton plated two more with another double to complete the scoring.

The Comets collected 15 hits in the contest as five different players had multi-hit performances. Stefanie Polderman was 3-for-3 with two runs scored while Halliburton was 2-for-4 with four RBI.

GAME 2 - UTD 6, MSM 1
The Comets took an early leads and had a four-run 6th inning to complete the sweep of the Knights with a 6-1 victory in the night cap.

Karen Crane (7-4) scattered seven hits while giving up one run with one strikeout in a complete-game outing. UTD had 11 hits in the second game with four players recording multiple hits.

UTD opened the scoring in the 3rd on a bunt single by Brann that brought home Livermore from third base. The Comets then doubled their lead in the 4th with a two-out bases-loaded walk drawn by Brann. Up 2-1 in the 6th, UTD then plated four runs on just three hits to complete the scoring. The Comes picked up a two-run, pinch-hit double by Halliburton, her fifth and sixth RBI of the doubleheader, and a two-run triple by Emily Schroeder in the 6th.

Schroeder was 3-for-3 with two RBI while Brann finished the game 2-for-3 with two RBI as well.

NEXT GAME
The Comets return to action Thursday night as they host LeTourneau in a 6 p.m. single game to open a three-game American Southwest Conference series. The two teams will then play a 12 p.m. doubleheader on Friday.
