RICHARDSON, TX (04.15.18) - The UT Dallas baseball team completed a an impressive offensive weekend with a 14-3 win over Mary Hardin-Baylor to close out a three-game American Southwest Conference series.
The Comets finished their three-game sweep of UMHB by scoring 52 runs on 58 hits, earning wins by the scores of 20-9 and 18-9 on Saturday. With Sunday's win, UTD secured a spot in next month's ASC Tournament.
UTD used a seven-run 3rd inning to secure an early lead en route to Sunday's run-rule victory over the Cru. The Comets widened their lead to 10-0 after five innings before UMHB would plate a run in the 6th and two final tallies in the 7th.
The Comets opened the scoring with two runs in the 2nd without a single hit. After two walks and a hit batter to open the frame, UTD got on the board with
Thomas Craig was plunked by a 2-2 pitch to bring home the first run of the game. Three batters later,
Josh Covey drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home
Luke Richter to lift the Comets to a 2-0 advantage.
UTD then plated seven runs on seven hits in the 3rd. The Comets picked up two runs on a single by
Rodney Corbin and a three more on a Covey homer, his third of the season.
The Comets added a two-run single by
Barry Casey followed by an RBI single by
Connor Scruggs in the 5th. Corbin opened the Comets' 6th with his second home run of the season, and added a final run later in the frame on a
Matt Mikusek ground out.
Cole Hanson (4-2) recorded the complete game, striking out three while scattering nine hits. He gave up two earned runs and walked two Cru batters. Craig was 2-for-2 with three runs scored while Corbin was 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored. Mikusek and Casey each went 2-for-4 with two RBI

NEXT SERIES
The Comets (21-13, 13-5 ASC) are now tied for second place in the ASC with six games left in the regular season. UTD returns to action next weekend with a three-game ASC series at Hardin-Simmons. The two teams will play a single game Friday at 7 p.m. before a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday in Abilene.
