ABILENE, TX (04.21.18) - Junior shortstop
Ravin Wilson blasted two home runs and collected five RBI as the UT Dallas softball team held off McMurry, 11-7, Saturday afternoon to complete a three-game American Southwest Conference sweep of the War Hawks.
Wilson finished the game 3-for-5 from the plate with three runs scored as the Comets jumped out to an early lead and then had to fight off McMurry after a late rally.
The Comets plated six runs in the top of the 2nd, including a three-run long ball by Wilson to secure a 6-0 advantage. After giving a run back in the bottom of the frame, UTD regained a six-run lead in the 4th with a Wilson solo shot, her sixth of the season.
The host War Hawks then plated five runs on five hits and a UTD error in the bottom of the 4th to draw with a run, 7-6. The Comets plated a single run in the 5th on a
Hope Griffith single up the middle, scoring pinch-runner Kenneday Zimmerman, before adding three final runs in the 6th. Wilson picked up her fifth RBI of the game with one out in the 6th, plating
Melissa Livermore with a single to left. UTD added RBI singles from
Amber Williams and
Emily Schroeder in the 6th.
Starter
Allie Stephens (9-5) earned the win, giving up six runs on eight hits with four strikeouts.
Karen Crane, the winning pitcher in both UTD victories on Friday, collected her school-record third save of the season, giving up an unearned run on four hits with two strikeouts in 3.0 innings of relief work.
Schoeder finished 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI while Williams, Griffith and Livermore each had two-hit performances.
NEXT SERIES
The Comets (22-15, 18-9 ASC) close out the regular season next weekend with a three-game home series with Concordia Texas. UTD currently sits in fourth place in the ASC with three games left to play, one game ahead of fifth-place CTX. The two teams will play a 4 p.m. doubleheader Friday before closing the set with an 11 a.m. single game Saturday for "Senior Day"
