Drugan Earns Career Win #300 As Comets Blank UT Tyler

RICHARDSON, TX (09.15.18) - UT Dallas' Kanute Drugan became just the 30th NCAA Division III women's soccer coach to collect 300 career victories Saturday night as his Comets rolled to a 2-0 home win over rival Texas-Tyler as part of Senior Night celebrations at the UTD Soccer Field.

In his 22nd season as a collegiate soccer coach, Drugan now boasts an all-time record of 300-130-18 for a 69.0 winning percentage over his career. He is currently in his fifth season at the helm of the Comets, now with a 62-24-2 (70.0%) mark at UTD. Drugan is the second winningest coach in the American Southwest Conference, only behind Hardin-Simmons' Marcus Wood (333-37-26).

The Comets dominated the meeting with UT Tyler, which fell to 4-1 after being handed its first loss of the season, from start to finish, but only managed to put two balls in the back of the net. UTD ended the game with 21 shots, seven on frame, while holding the visiting Patriots to just 11 shots, three on target. Melissa Fulfer led the Comets with five shots, while Jacquie Kaufman and Keely Fillman each took four shots. Two of Fillman's found glory as she accounted for both of UTD's scores.

UTD keeper Monica Dallacasa made three saves in the clean slate as the Comets posted their fifth shutout in six contests this season.

Riding the best start in program history, the Comets (6-0) will return to action Tuesday night when they visit Austin College in non-conference play. Game time is 6 p.m. in Sherman.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Fillman opened the scoring in the 26th minute when she blasted a shot from 10 yards out past UTT keeper Jade Crump. The tally was assisted by a pass from the right by teammate Stephanie White.
  • Fillman added an insurance goal in the 81st minute as she accepted a pass from Sofia Munoz, turned and struck a screamer into the net, also from short distance.
