Comets Earn Pair of Wins to Open Spring Break Trip

TUCSON, AZ (03.18.19) - The UT Dallas softball team kicked off its short two-day Spring Break stint at Lincoln Park on Monday with pair of wins at the Tucson Invitational.

The Comets (now 11-8) opened the trip with an 11-4 win over Augsburg before holding off Wisconsin-La Crosse, 7-5, in the second game of the day. UTD will play two more games on Tuesday before returning home. The Comets will face No. 15 Central at 11 a.m. (Central) before playing Wisconsin-Platteville at 1 p.m.

GAME 1 - UTD 11, AUGSBURG 4
Amber Williams blasted her team-leading sixth home run of the season as the Comets opened Spring Break with an 11-4 rout of Augsburg Monday morning.

The Comets plated three run sin the 4th and five more in the to pull away from Augsburg after taking an early lead. Ravin Wilson led the attack with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate with a pair of runs scored while Melissa Livermore was 3-for-4 with three stolen bases in the victory.

With the game tied 2-2 in the 4th, Kendra Litchfield gave the Comets back the lead with a triple, scoring Amy Jensen. UTD then added and RBI single by Livermore and a final run on an Auggie error to take a 5-2 lead. 

UTD gave two runs back in the top of the 5th, but answered with five runs on seven hits in the bottom of the frame to snag a 10-4 cushion. Williams' two-run homer started the Comets' 5th inning barrage before Litchfield, Peters and Livermore each added RBI hits. The Comets tacked on an RBI double from Elizabeth Brann in the 7th.

BriAnna Young (5-1) picked up the win in the circle, giving up two runs on just five hits in 6.2 innings of work. Young struck out five while issuing just one walk.

GAME 2 - UTD 7, UWL 5
The Comets scored four runs in the top of the 1st and then had to hold off Wisonsin-La Crosse in the final frame for a 7-5 win the squad's second game of the day.

UTD quickly got on the scoreboard when Livermore led off the game with a single, stole second and came home on a Hope Griffith single. The Comets then added two runs on an Eagle error before tacking on an RBI single by Brann to take a 4-0 lead.

Up 4-1 in the 4th, the Comets added a run on a sacrifice fly by Livermore followed by a Jessica Vlasek RBI single to extend their lead to 6-1.

The Eagles, however, would plate three runs in the bottom of the 6th to draw within two runs, 6-4, before UTD got a run back in the top of the 7th on an RBI single by Wilson, scoring Williams. UWL used three two-out singles in the bottom of the 7th to draw back within two runs, but closed out the game with a infield pop up.

Wilson was 3-for-4 with three RBI while Williams finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Nicole Vasicek (4-3) earned the wih, giving up four runs on nine hits in 6.1 innings of work.
