RICHARDSON, TX (10.29.21) - Despite one of the quickest goals to start a game in program history, the UT Dallas men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 home loss to Ozarks Friday night in ASC play to wrap up the regular season.
The Comets (10-4-3, 6-2-2 ASC) will open the postseason Tuesday night with a 7 p.m. home gae against LeTourneau in the quarterfinals of the ASC Championship Tournament. With a win over LETU, the Comets would advance to the ASC semifinals on Friday, Nov. 5, in Belton. UTD will be making its 21st all-time and 12th consecutive appearance in the ASC Tournament in the program's 24-year history.
It took just 28 seconds for the Comets to get on the scoreboard as
Brandon Buchanan netted his sixth goal of the fall to give UTD a quick 1-0 lead. Buchanan's goal was assisted by
Benny Lube as Comets took the opening kickoff and grabbed early control of the contest.
The UTD lead would hold through the opening half before the Eagles (9-7-1, 5-4-1 ASC) scored the equalizer less than a minute into the second half. Ozarks would complete the comeback with the game-winner by Daniel Lyon in the 67th minute.
The Comets were limited to just six shots in the loss, the second-lowest total by the squad this season, with Buchanan taking three of those shots.
Trey Nickel and
Michael Hesse each made saves in the first half while
Eric LaWare gave up two second-half goals without a save.
