Ashlyn Sims scored twice in the opening nine minutes as the UT Dallas women's soccer team earned a 3-1 road win over LeTourneau Wednesday night in American Southwest Conference play.
Sims, a forward from Cypress, opened the scoring in the fourth minute with a shot to the low left thanks to an assist from
Rana Hussein. Sims lifted the Comets to 2-0 cushion in the ninth minute with a shot to the upper middle with an assist from
Peyton Guidry.
The host YellowJackets answered with a goal by Heather Fellows in the 16th minute to trim the UTD to 2-1 at the half.
Morgan Stromberg added an unassisted second-half goal for the Comets, giving them a 3-1 lead in the 63rd minute.
The Comets (2-0) finished the night with 17 shots, nine on frame, with
Keely Fillman and
Stephanie Ward leading the squad with three shots apiece. UTD starting goalkeeper
Morgan Sherman played the opening half, making one save in 45 minutes of action.
Megan Hannah played a clean second half for the Comets in goal, making one save.
UTD returns to action Saturday when they host LeTourneau at 5 p.m.
