RICHARDSON, TX (03.09.21) - The UT Dallas baseball team had its four-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday as the Comets fell at home to Southwestern, 6-4, in non-conference action.
Despite collecting 10 hits, the Comets (now 6-2) mustered just four runs of offense in the loss, two runs coming in the bottom of the 5th after falling behind, 3-2. However, the visiting Pirates (2-7) added three late runs to rally for their second victory of the season.
The Comets opened the scoring in the 1st after
Jacob Perry used a lead-off single to right field to reach base. Perry then stole second and third before coming home on a sacrifice fly by
A.J. Liu. Liu added a second RBI in the 3rd when he plated
Ramon Garza with a single to give UTD back the lead, 2-1. The Pirates answered with two runs in the top of the 5th to take their first lead of the afternoon.
Keagan Vance knotted the game with one out in the bottom of the 5th with a groundout to second base, scoring Liu.
Zac Vorst would later scoring in the inning thanks to a two-out Southwestern error.Â
Perry finished the game 2-for-4 while Liu was 2-for-5 with two RBI.
The Comets return to American Southwest Conference play with a three-game series at Concordia Texas this weekend. The two teams will open the set with a single game at 6 p.m. Friday before a 12 p.m. doubleheader Saturday.
