RICHARDSON, TX (04.01.21) - Despite being out-shot, 17-6, the UT Dallas women's soccer team earned a 1-0 victory over McMurry Thursday night in the quarterfinal round of the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament.
The Comets (now 6-0) will head to the ASC semifinals for the 19th straight season and will host the league's final three games next week at the UTD Soccer Field. UTD returns to action next Thursday, Apr. 8, against an opponent yet to be determined.
Junior
Sofia Munoz accounted for only scoring in the duel as she recorded her team-leading fourth goal of the spring in the 15th minute as he received a cross from senior
Keely Fillman and beat the McMurry keeper. The Comets would only muster two others shots before the break and added just three more shots in the second half as the UTD defense was busy all night with the War Hawk attack. Shot-happy McMurry (now 2-5-1) took 17 shots, but had just five on frame, thanks to strong play by the back line keeping the War Hawks off balance and forcing shots.
UTD keeper
Megan Hannah posted the shutout with five saves. Munoz led the Comets with two shots.
