JACKSON, MS (04.10.21) - The UT Dallas men's tennis team collected its third straight sweep to open league play as the Comets rolled past Belhaven, 9-0, Saturday afternoon in American Southwest Conference East Division play.
The Comets (now 6-7, 3-0 ASC East) dominated doubles play with three quick wins before taking all six singles contests against the host Blazers.
Noah Sam and
Jed De Luna opened the match with an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles before top-flighted
Ashwin Vaithianathan and
John Edwards added an 8-3 win. RItvik Ganesan and
Nick Boquet completed the doubles sweep with an 8-3 win at No. 2.
Boquet was the first Comet to complete his singles match, giving UTD a 4-0 lead after a 6-0, 6-0, victory at No. 4. Ganesan locked down the team victory with a 6-1, 6-1, win at No. 3 singles. Vaithianathan (No. 1, 6-3, 6-1), Edwards (No. 2, 6-0, 6-0), De Luna (No. 5, 6-0, 6-1) and Sam (No. 6, 6-2, 6-0) each added straight-set wins.
The Comets are back in action Thursday with a 9 a.m. match at NCAA Division I Southern Methodist.
