LONGVIEW, TX (04.24.21) - The UT Dallas men's tennis team wrapped up a perfect run through the American Southwest Conference East Division Saturday afternoon with a 9-0 road victory over LeTourneau.
The Comets (7-8, 4-0 ASC East) claimed their fourth divisional crown in six years and will serve as the host of the eight-team ASC Championship Tournament, Apr. 29-May 1, at the UTD Tennis Courts.
UTD stormed through doubles play with three victories before collecting six straight-set wins in singles action.
Haydn Steffes and
Jed De Luna opened doubles with an 8-3 win at No. 2 before top-flighted
Ashwin Vaithianathan and
John Edwards earned an 8-3 victory of their own.
Ritvik Ganesan adn Maura Tejada capped the doubles sweep with an 8-7 win at No. 3.
Vaithianathan made quick work of LETU's Rodrigo Vazquez, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 1 before Edwards wrapped up the team victory with a 6-3, 6-1, win over Patrick Baney at No. 2.
Steffes ( No. 3, 6-1, 7-5), Ganesan (No. 4, 6-3, 6-1), De Luna (No. 5, 6-3, 6-1) and Tejada (No. 6, 7-6, 6-3) also earned straight-set singles wins.
The Comets will wrap up the regular season Sunday at 1 p.m. with a non-conference road match at Austin College in Sherman.
