RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas men's soccer team posted their 25th consecutive winning season in 2022, a tradition that spans the entire length of the varsity program.
In head coach Jason Hirsch's 10th campaign, the Comets finished 9-6-4 overall, 4-3-2 in American Southwest Conference play and reached the conference semifinals for the 13th straight time.
UTD rocketed out to a 3-0-1 start at home, including a huge last-second 2-1 win over #13 Trinity (Texas). Sitting a 4-2-2 after the non-conference portion of the season, the Comets started off league play 1-2-2 before winning three of the last four games, capturing fourth place.
They opened the ASC Championship Tournament with a 2-1 home win over Ozarks in the quarterfinals, before being ousted in the semifinals by league champion Mary Hardin-Baylor. Brandon Buchanan and Leo Castro were both named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Comets placed eight on the All-ASC Teams - including defender Kayson Marriott, forward Riley O'Donnell, midfielder Kane Kidwell and goalkeeper Michael Hesse on the First Team. Defender Nate Patton was on the Second Team, defender Adrian Solano and forward Joe Ruedi were on the Third Team and midfielder Aiden Currie was an Honorable Mention.
O'Donnell was also a United Soccer Coaches All-Region X Second Team pick. Kidwell, Marriott, Alan Beaney and Gavin Smith were selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team.
UTD ranked third in the conference with 35 goals and first in shots on goal with 159. The Comets also posted four shutouts on the year.
O'Donnell was fifth in the ASC in points (20) and goals (8), while Kidwell was ninth in points (18). Castro ranked sixth in the league with five assists.
