Comets of the Week - 11/3/25

LILA WESTPHAL | Volleyball
Freshman middle blocker Lila Westphal hit .378 with 1.60 kills and 0.90 blocks per set as the Comets went 2-1 on the week. She started the week with six kills and three blocks in Tuesday's four-set loss at St. Edward's. Westphal then hit .500 with four kills and two blocks in a sweep of Western New Mexico, then hit .500 again with six kills and four blocks in a three-set victory over Sul Ross State.

TYLER DURDEN | Men's Golf
Senior Tyler Durden finished seventh at the DBU Classic in Rockwall, Texas, shooting a one-under-par. He had a 73-70-72 with 11 birdies, helping the Comets to an eighth place finish. |

Comets of the Week - 10/27/25

JANE BURKHARDT | Volleyball
Freshman outside hitter Jane Burkhardt broke the UT Dallas record for most kills in a match with 32 in Tuesday's four-set non-conference win at Southeastern Oklahoma State. She followed 11 kills and 22 digs in a sweep at Eastern New Mexico on Friday and had eight kills in Saturday's loss at #13 West Texas A&M. For the week, Burkhardt hit .246 with 5.10 kills and 3.00 digs per set.

ALEX BOZHILOV | Cross Country
Sophomore Alex Bozhilov earned All-Conference honors, placing 12th at the Lone Star Championship Saturday in Fort Worth. He ran the 8K course in 25:24.16 – the fifth fastest time in program history. He finished his first season at UTD with three of the five top 8K times, including the school record. |

CAMILAH PORRAS | Women's Golf
Freshman Camilah Porras tied for fourth place at the Battle for the Belt in Hot Springs, Ark. She shot a 73-76-74=223 (+7), sinking seven birdies. Her score of 223 was the fifth-best individual 54-hole score in school history. Porras' performance helped the Comets finish in third place in the 11-team tournament.

JOSH ZEMANSKI | Men's Soccer
Junior defender Josh Zemanski played all 180 minutes at right back in the Comets' pair of shutouts. He anchored a defense that allowed just five shots on goal in Wednesday's 1-0 home win over Lubbock Christian. Zemanski then helped UTD secure a 2-0 shutout at #9 Midwestern State on Saturday.

MARI HERNANDEZ | Volleyball
Junior libero Mari Hernandez became the 13th player in school history to reach the 1,000-dig mark on Saturday, coming up with 19 at UT Permian Basin. She now has 1,015 in her career and ranks second on UTD's career list with 4.83 digs per set.

AVERY BRAZZELL | Men's Soccer
Junior forward Avery Brazzell recorded an assist and a goal in the Comets' 2-0 victory over West Texas A&M on Saturday. He assisted the first goal in the 21st minute and scored on a breakaway with 20 seconds remaining to seal the victory. Brazzell also took a shot in Wednesday's 1-1 draw at DBU.

ALEX BOZHILOV | Cross Country
Sophomore Alex Bozhilov broke the school record in the 8K at the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival in Fayetteville, Arkansas on Saturday. He finished 64th out of 285 runners in the prestigious McDonnell Memorial race with a time of 25:15.2, besting the two-year-old record by 4.5 seconds. Bozhilov's time ranks 14th in the Lone Star Conference.

LINA ULLEN | Women's Soccer
Graduate student Lina Ullen limited Texas A&M International to just one shot on goal as the Comets shutout the Dustdevils 1-0 on the road Saturday. Ullen logged all 90 minutes at center back and held TAMIU to seven total shots in UTD's fourth shutout of the season. She has played every minute of all nine games this year.

GABBY THOMPSON | Women's Soccer
Junior forward Gabby Thompson recorded both game-winning goals in the Comets' wins last week. She scored the second goal of the game in the 38th minute of Wednesday's 4-1 victory at Eastern New Mexico. Thompson then recorded her eighth goal of the season in the 32nd minute of Saturday's 1-0 win against UT Permian Basin. |

RYAN ANDERSON | Men's Soccer
Sophomore forward/defender Ryan Anderson scored his first two goals of the season and helped produce a shutout in UTD's 4-0 win over Dallas Christian Saturday. He came off the bench to score the first goal of the game in the 15th minute off a header, then scored again in the 25th minute, while logging 74 minutes on the backline. Anderson also took a shot in 81 minutes of action at Oklahoma Christian Thursday. |

JULIO DE LOS REYES | Men's Soccer
Junior defender Julio De Los Reyes helped the Comets pick up a pair of home victories as the back line allowed just five shots on goal and one score. He played all 90 minutes and limited Ouachita Baptist to two shots on goal in Thursday's 3-1 victory. De Los Reyes once again went the entire game in a 0-0 shutout effort against Sul Ross State on Saturday. |

Freshman Molly Woods placed second at the Oklahoma Intercollegiate in Lawton, shooting a 72-74=146 (+4). Her score was two shots off the lead as she tied for the tournament lead with seven birdies made. Woods' performance helped the Comets finish second as a team |

MELIA MENDOZA-FLORES | Volleyball
Sophomore middle blocker Melia Mendoza-Flores hit .413, averaging 1.82 kills per set as the Comets went 2-2 at the Reddie-Tiger Invitational. She hit .333 or better in all four matches, including .462 with seven kills in a five-set win against Mississippi College. Mendoza-Flores had a career-high 14 kills while hitting .407 in a five-set loss at Henderson State. She also recorded 10 blocks on the week and was named to the All-Tournament Team. |

CALLUM THOMPSON | Men's Soccer
Redshirt freshman defender Callum Thompson scored both game-winning goals and played all 180 minutes as UT Dallas recorded a pair of road shutouts. He found the net in the 18th minute on a backwards, floating header off a free kick in Thursday's 1-0 win at West Texas A&M. Thompson struck again early with a 14th-minute score in Saturday's 2-0 blanking at Lubbock Christian. His defensive efforts help limit the Buffaloes to four shots on goal and the Chaparrals to none. |

CHELSEA VILCA | Women's Soccer
Senior forward Chelsea Vilca recorded seven points on three goals as the Comets opened the season 1-0-1. In Thursday's season-opening 5-0 home victory over Oklahoma Baptist, she scored the first two goals of the game only 1:05 apart in the 22nd and 23rd minutes. The time between goals was the fourth-fastest by a single player in program history. Vilca went on to assist the third goal of the game in the 36th minute. She tied the game 1-1 in the 55th minute in Saturday's draw at Rogers State.
