GEORGETOWN, TEXAS (04.19.22) - The 13th-ranked UT Dallas baseball team dropped just its eighth game of the season Tuesday, falling 8-4 in a non-conference road matchup at Southwestern University.
The Comets (25-8) were able to play catchup most of the game, but gave up four runs in the 8th inning that allowed the Pirates (16-15) to pull away with the win.
UTD returns to the field this weekend for an important American Southwest Conference series at East Texas Baptist. The series opener is at 7 pm Friday in Marshall.
The Comets tied the game twice with the Pirates, rallying from an early 1-0 deficit and then a 3-1 hole later on. But Southwestern was able to retake a 4-3 lead with a single run in the 7th, then put the game away with four more in the 8th. The Comets rallied in the top of the 9th, but could muster just a single run.
Shortstop
Keagan Vance was 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of RBIs, but the rest of the UTD lineup managed just five hits and stranded 11 baserunners.Â
Each team sent eight pitchers to the mound.
Andrew Vorst (0-1) was the losing pitcher for the first time this season.
