Men's Tennis Ends Season in ASC Semifinals

GEORGETOWN, TX (05.06.22) - The UT Dallas men's tennis team had its season come to a close Friday with a 5-1 loss to Hardin-Simmons in the semifinals of the 2022 ASC Men's Tennis Championship Tournament, hosted by Concordia Texas at East View High School.

ASC TOURNAMENT CENTRAL

The Comets wrapped up the year with an 8-7 record, advancing to at least the semifinals of the ASC tournament for the sixth straight season.

HSU (13-7) opened the duel with a sweep of doubles play against the Comets, but needed a tie-breaker at No. 3 to take a 3-0 lead. After rolling to quick wins at No. 1 and No. 2, HSU was forced to a tie-break by UTD's Mario Dominguez and Carlos De Leon as the Comets tried to steal an early point. The Cowboy tandem of Davyn Williford and Josh Lopez used an 8-6 decision in tie-break to lift HSU to the doubles sweep.

The Cowboys added a three-set win at No. 6 to push their lead to 4-0 before UTD's De Leon claimed a 6-4, 6-2, win over Desmond O'Shea. HSU closed the victory with a three-set win at No. 3 singles.
