SEASON PREVIEW: Women's Tennis To Go for Fourth Straight Title

SEASON PREVIEW: Women's Tennis To Go for Fourth Straight Title

RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas women's tennis team will go for its fourth consecutive American Southwest Conference title and fifth overall in 2023.

The Comets went 12-3 overall in 2022 and 3-0 in ASC East en route to the squad's fourth straight division crown. They were tabbed as the unanimous favorite to repeat in the ASC preseason coaches poll.

UTD returns six players from last year's team that made its fourth-ever trip to the national tournament, including All-American Suzuka Nishino. Nishino repeated as the ITA Southwest Regional champion in the fall and advanced to the consolation semifinals of the prestigious ITA Cup. She also played in the NCAA Division III Individual Championship last season.

Nishino and junior Saumya Vedula were selected to the Preseason Players to Watch List. Both student-athletes are joined by returnees Rebecca Jackson, Elyssa Ducret and Megan Zeng as All-ASC picks last season. Also back is Tisha Nakakes-Nguyen. Newcomers to the team are Kriti Parikh and Saundarya Vedula.

Ducret was the 2022 ASC East Division Co-Freshman of the Year. Nishino is ranked #10 in the ITA Rankings while the team is #24.
