RICHARDSON, TX - Graduate student Jed DeLuna, playing as UT Dallas' #6 singles, came up big in the final match Saturday afternoon, defeating Jack Delafield of Colorado College in three sets to give the UTD men's tennis team a 5-4 win over the Tigers on the UTD Courts.
With the team match even at 4-4, DeLuna won the first set, 6-3, but dropped the second, 3-6, before putting together a convincing 6-2 win in the deciding set.
With the non-conference win, the Comets improve to 8-6 heading into next weekend's American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament, which will be played on the UTD Courts.
DeLuna and partner Eddy Shteyan were one of three UTD doubles team to give the Comets a 3-0 edge heading into singles. Shteyan also picked up an important point for UTD in #3 singles, winning his match, 7-5, 3-1. DeLuna/Shteyan won their match, 8-6.
