MARSHALL, Texas - The UT Dallas baseball team kicked off the 2023 American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament with an 11-1, seven-inning victory against LeTourneau at Woods Field Thursday. 
The Comets (24-17) scored in every inning, outhitting the YellowJackets (19-22) 7-t and taking advantage of 10 walks and three errors.
With two outs in the first, 
Robert Hines drew a walk and scored on a double to left center by right fielder 
Luke Finn. A grand slam by center fielder 
Jaeger Self in the bottom of the second put UTD up 5-0. 
Brayshon Savage and 
Austin Nairn used back-to-back RBI singles and 
Keagan Vance executed a sacrifice squeez to go up 8-0 in the third. Finn walked, stole second and scored after consecutive errors by LeTourneau for a 9-0 lead in the fourth.
Self drew a two-out walk, moved to second on a Hines hit by pitch, stole third and gave UTD a 10-0 advantage after scoring on a Finn base hit in the fifth.
The YellowJackets only run of the game came in the top of the sixth when catcher Cameron Pfafman led off with a single, moved to second on a hit, went to third on a passed ball and scored on a ground ball from Lane Williams. The Comets added a final run in the bottom of the sixth when 
Grayson Coltharp walked and later scored on a Vance grounder. 
Ryan Vera (7-2) needed just 90 pitches, with only 31 coming in the first four games, four the complete game victory. He allowed five hits, an unearned run and two walks while striking out four. 
UT Dallas Notes
- Self's grand slam was the fifth for the Comets this season. 
- Finn went 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, two walks, a double and a stolen base.
- Coltharp hit a triple, his second of the season, with two runs scored and three walks.
- Vance broke the school record with his 11th sacrifice bunt of the year. 
- Vera moved into a tie for sixth place on UTD's career wins list with 18. 
LeTourneau Notes
- Pfafman went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
- Andrew Klingenstein was 2-for-3.
- Carter Amarantos also had a hit.
-  Aman Patel (4-7) took the loss, lasting 2.1 innings while giving up six hits, eight runs, four walks and striking out one.

With the win, the third-seeded Comets will battle the second-seed Concordia Texas (25-15) on Friday at 11 a.m.
