Comet Softball Blanks Cowgirls 4-0 in Regular Season Finale

ABILENE, Texas - The UT Dallas softball team ended the regular season with a 4-0 shutout of Hardin-Simmons at Ellis Field Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Comets (24-16, 15-12 ASC) win its sixth American Southwest Conference series out of nine. They will be the sixth seed in the ASC Championship Tournament beginning May 11 in Belton, Texas.

Senior Marisa Mejia threw a gem, scattering three hits and a walk with three strikeouts for her third shutout of the season.

Megan Cavazos led the top of the second off with a walk, reached second on an error and later scored on a RBI-single from center fielder Riley Westmoreland for the first run of the game.

UTD added three more runs in the sixth with a two-run double off of Erin Ledesma's bat, who also scored in the inning on a wild pitch.

The Comets outhit the Cowgirls (26-13, 15-11 ASC) 6-3 in the game while drawing three walks. 

UT Dallas Notes
- Westmoreland went 2-for-3 with a RBI.
- Cavazos drew a pair of walks and scored twice.
- Ledesma and Claire Pollack each recorded a double.
- Mejia (5-2) threw 11 scoreless frames and went 2-0 in the series.

Hardin-Simmons Notes
- Sarah Diessner went 2-for-3 for the Cowgirls.
- Lindsey Ratcliffe also had a hit.
- Kaylen Washington (6-5) took the loss, allowing three earned runs and striking out four.

Up Next
UT Dallas will open the ASC Championship Tournament on the campus of Mary Hardin-Baylor at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 11 against third-seeded LeTourneau.
