MARSHALL, Texas - The 2023 UT Dallas baseball season came to an end Saturday after being eliminated with a pair of losses in the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament at Woods Field.
The Comets (25-19) lost in the winner's bracket Semifinal 7-6 to Hardin-Simmons, then were knocked out by #20 East Texas Baptist 21-2 in seven innings.
The Cowboys (22-21) outhit the Comets 11-10 and took advantage of two errors. UTD had a three-run first inning, but HSU managed a run in the second, fourth and fifth to tie it up.Â
The Comets responded with three more runs in the sixth, but the Cowboys added a run in the seventh and won the game with a three-run eighth.
In the elimination game, the Tigers (33-11) outhit the Comets 17-6, including nine extra base hits. ETBU started with seven runs in the first and had another big inning with six in the third.
UT Dallas Notes
- Right fielder
Luke Finn hit a two-run homer in the first against HSU and walked twice with a base hit against ETBU.

Grayson Coltharp was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in the first game.

Robert Hines was 2-for-5 with a run scored and RBI in game one.
- Hines broke the UTD single season record with 372 on the year.
- Third baseman
Daniel Zamora hit his 13th career home run against HSU and drove in a run versus ETBU.

Kade Turnage had a pinch hit double and scored against the Tigers.
Hardin-Simmons Notes
- Wyatt Tumlinson (2-0) earned the win in relief, striking out two while allowing one hit and a walk in three scoreless innings.
- Luke Kirkbride was 3-for-5 with a double and a RBI.
- Gannon Azios hit a solo home run.

Jeremy Colon was 2-for-4 with two RBI.
East Texas Baptist Notes
- The Tigers connected on five home runs and four doubles.
- Cole Godkin (5-2) earned the win with a five-inning start.
- Jase Jones was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, three RBI, a home run and a double.
- Brett Wagner drove in four runs and was 2-for-3 with a home run.Â
- Ben Lea went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and a double.
- Jake Miller was 3-for-3 with three runs scored, four RBI and a homer.
