RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas baseball team finished its season-opening series with Texas Lutheran on Saturday with a 12-0, seven-inning victory at UTD Baseball Field Saturday.
The Comets (3-0) swept the Bulldogs (5-5) with a one-hitter by junior hurler
Tobin Oler. He struck out three while walking five with the one hit being a bunt single.
Meanwhile, UTD connected on 13 hits, while drawing seven walks and getting hit twice.
Friday's hero
Luke Finn led the bottom off the first by being plunked and moved to second on base hit from second baseman
Albert Garza. Senior third baseman
Dylan Bivins doubled to center field, driving in Finn and first baseman
Zach Landry followed with a single that scored Garza. Bivins crossed the plate from third on a double play ball, giving the Comets a 3-0 lead.
Sophomore catcher
Nico Fernandez led the fourth off with a single, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored with base hit to left center by shortstop
Garrett Neeley, who then stole second. Finn knocked in Neeley with a base hit to go up 5-0.
Brayshon Savaged added another run in the fifth with an RBI-single to center, plating Fernandez.
The Comets' big inning came in the bottom of the sixth, as they scored six runs on five hits. Bivins connected with a two-run double and designated hitter
Grayson Coltharp also drove in a pair with a single to left.Â
UT Dallas Notes
- Oler, making his Comet debut, threw the 12th one-hitter in school history.
- Bivins recorded a pair of doubles, two runs and three RBI.
- Fernadez was 2-for-4 with three runs scored, a double and RBI.
- Finn extended his hitting streak to seven games, dating back to last season, with a pair of hits and two runs scored.
- Coltharp was 2-for-3 with two RBI.Â
- Savage also recorded a pair of hits.
Texas Lutheran Notes
- JT Taylor (2-1) took the loss for the Bulldogs, allowing eight hits, six runs and four walks with one strikeout over five innings.
- Left fielder Mason Godeau recorded TLU's only hit with a bunt single.
- Case Borgeois, Tyler Post, Adam Peavy, Ryan Botello and Aric Vasquez each drew a walk.
