RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas baseball team won its final non-conference game of the regular season, defeating Centenary (La.) 17-10 at UTD Baseball Field Tuesday afternoon.
The Comets (25-12) outslugged the Gents (18-15) 18-7, including 8-1 in extra-base hits.
Centenary scored twice in the top of the second, but UTD responded loudly with nine runs int he bottom of the inning, taking advantage of eight hits and two errors while stealing four bases. Designated hitter
Josh Johnson homered twice in the second, leading off with a solo shot, then hitting a two-run bomb over the fence in left center later.
A solo home run by first baseman Andrew Miller in the fifth made the game 11-4. A sacrifice fly from Johnson and a two-run line drive shot to left field gave the Comets a 14-4 advantage in the bottom of the fifth.
UTD took a 17-5 lead into the top of the ninth. The Gents went on to score five runs on two hits, three walks and a hit batter.
UT Dallas Notes
- The Comets won their 25th game of the season, the 15th time they have reached the 25-win mark in 23 seasons.
- Junior starter
Apollo Cassimatis (3-2) tied his career high of five strikeouts, allowing three walks, three earned runs and four hits over six innings.
- Johnson finished 3-for-4 with four RBI and three runs scored.
- Center fielder Jeager Self was 4-for-5 with two runs, four RBI, a double and two stolen bases.
- Rexin hit his second home run of the year, going 2-for-4 with three runs scored.
- Second baseman
Albert Garza was also 2-for-4 with a run scored, a RBI and two steals.
- Shortstop
Efren Munoz went 3-for-5 with two RBI, a run and a double.
- Catcher
Payton Taylor was 2-for-3 with a double and three runs scored.
Centenary Notes
- Miller went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and the solo home run.
- Shortstop Jobee Boone was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and a pair of walks.
- Center fielder Collin Pitts drove in two runs.
- Colby Wilkerson (0-1) took the loss, allowing three hits, three runs and striking out three in an inning-plus of work.
