LONGVIEW, Texas - The UT Dallas baseball team finished off its American Southwest Conference series sweep by defeating LeTourneau 9-4 at Conrad-Vernon Field Saturday afternoon.
The Comets (28-12, 16-8 ASC) secured the second seed and a bye in next week's ASC Championship Tournament in Marshall, Texas.Â
UTD jumped out to a 6-0 lead after four innings.
Nico Fernandez drew a bases-loaded walk in the first and
Jaeger Self hit a two-run double in the third, followed by a sac fly from
Efren Munoz. Third baseman
Dylan Bivins knocked in two runs with a single to center in the fourth as well.
The YellowJackets (15-25, 7-17 ASC) got on the board in the bottom of the fifth with Hayden Norris knocking in Ethan Wood on a single. Xander Nabors singled in Garrett Irwin in the seventh to make the game 6-2.
The Comets tacked on three more runs in the eighth on four hits and a pair of errors.
Luke Finn hit a two-run homer over the fence in left field and another
Lucas Rexin singled, stole second and scored on two errors on the play.
A two-run blast by Dane Jones in the ninth made the final score 9-4.
LETU outhit UTD 14-12 in the game, but the Comets drew seven walks while the YellowJackets had none.
UT Dallas Notes
- Finn hit his 10th home run of the year, scored twice and walked three times.
- First baseman
Zach Landry was 3-for-5 with with a run scored and a stolen base.
- Bivins went 2-for-4 with two knocked in in.
- Fernandez finished 2-for-4 with a run scored, walk and RBI.
- Self went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a double.
- Senior second baseman
Will Dolan scored, was hit by a pitch and stole a base.
- Senior starter
Dylan Hugley (8-2) earned the win, allowing 14 hits, four runs and striking out four over 8.1 innings.

LeTourneau Notes
- Norris was 4-for-5 with a run scored and a RBI.
- Jones went 2-for-5 with a run scored, two RBI and his 20th home run of the year.
- Wood finished 2-for-4 and scored.
- Riley Davis (1-3) took the loss, giving up five hits, four runs and four walks while fanning four in three innings.

UTD will play on Friday, May 3 in the American Southwest Conference against the winner of Mary Hardin-Baylor and Hardin-Simmons at 11 a.m. on the campus of East Texas Baptist.
