BROWNWOOD, Texas - The UT Dallas baseball team used a nine-run eighth inning to earn a 14-7 come-from-behind victory over Howard Payne at Don Shepard Park Friday afternoon.
The host Yellow Jackets (9-17, 5-11 American Southwest Conference) took a 4-0 lead over the first four innings. The Comets (19-7, 9-4 ASC) began chipping into the deficit with a three-run sixth which included a two-run double from left fielder
Brayshon Savage, who also scored on a balk.
UTD took a 5-4 lead in the top of the seventh, but HPU tied it up in the bottom of the frame on a run-scoring single from Landon Prestage.
The Comets exploded for nine runs on four hits, three walks, two hit batters, two wild pitches and a balk in the eighth.
Dylan Bivins came up with a two-run double and center fielder
Jaeger Self connected on a three-run homer over the left field fence. The Yellow Jackets managed two runs in the bottom of the ninth for the final 14-7 tally.
All nine batters in the UTD lineup recorded a hit and scored with six players driving runs in. HPU led in hits 15-13, but walked seven Comets and hit five batters.Â
Tobin Oler (2-0) earned the win with an inning of action in relief. Anthony Cook (1-2) took the loss.

- Second baseman
Albert Garza tied a school record by being hit by a pitch three times in the game. He was also 1-for-2 with a double, two runs scored, a walk and a stolen base.
- Self recorded his third home run of the season and extended his hitting streak to seven games.
- Bivins drove in two runs with his double, going 2-for-5 and moving his hitting streak to seven as well.
- Savage drove in two runs with a double and scored twice.

Luke Finn recorded two hits, a walk, scored and stole a base.

Zach Landry also had a pair of hits.

Caleb Vuono threw a scoreless eighth inning in relief.

- Right fielder Tanner Benson went 3-for-4 with a run scored and walk.

- Starter Gary Blair allowed seven hits, three runs and two walks with three strikeouts over six innings.
