SAINT LEO, Fla. - The UT Dallas men's tennis team opened its Florida Spring Break trip with a 7-0 loss to #17 Saint Leo at the SLU Tennis Center Monday afternoon.
The host Lions (10-4) won the doubles point by taking two of the three match-ups. The Comets (2-6) tandem of
Benjamin Dubois and
Travis Rafferty defeated Eduardo Cohen and Taiyo Hirano 7-5 in the top spot.
SLU went on to sweep singles, however UTD pressured the Sunshine State Conference foe by going to third-set tiebreakers in the fourth, fifth and sixth flights.
Dubois took the first set from Filippo Caporali at number four before falling 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 1-0 (12-10). Eddy Shtyen lost to Leonardo Pisa 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-8) at number five. In the closest skirmish of the day, Matheus Zanellato was just short against Theo Renoux at number six by a score of 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (7-5), 1-0 (13-11).
UTD will continue its trip on Tuesday when they face Eckerd in St. Petersburg at 10 a.m. CT.
