FORT MYERS, Fla. - The UT Dallas baseball team improved to 8-0 on the year Friday afternoon as they defeated Otterbein 14-7. The game was the Comets' opener at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic at Terry Park Stadium.
Second baseman
Albert Garza started the contest with an infield single and scored on a
Lucas Rexin double to left to give UTD an early 1-0 lead. The Cardinals (2-5) answered with a leadoff double from Max Mcann who later scored on a Charlie Greenlief sacrifice fly.
Kole Kinnison singled to right and was knocked in by shortstop
Thomas Soto in the top of the second. OU tied it again in the third with a bases loaded walk.
Rexin hit a two-run single in the fourth to put the Comets up 4-2. The Cardinals picked up a run in the bottom of the frame, then scored two more in the fifth and another pair in the sixth to go up 7-4.
UTD took control of the game with seven runs on six hits, two hit batters and two errors in the seventh.
Nico Fernandez had the biggest hit of the inning with a two-run single through the left side.
Right fielder
Trent McCown blasted a three-run homer over the left field fence in the top of the eighth for the final 14-7 score.
The Comets outhit the Cardinals 15-11 and drew more walks, 6-4.
UT Dallas Notes
- All nine batters recorded a hit.
- Rexin went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and four RBI. He has came up with at least one hit and a run in all eight games this season.
- McCown hit his team-leading fifth home run of the year and now has 18 RBI.
- Garza drew three walks and scored three times with a hit and a walk. He leads the Comets with 12 walks this season.
- Knnison, Munoz and Soto each had two base hits.

Trevor McGrath (2-0) picked up the victory in relief.

Jake Jennings fanned two batters in two scoreless frames.
Ethan Vandament also threw a scoreless inning.
- Catcher
Noah Angus threw out the only base runner trying to steal.
- UTD has outscored opponents 109-39 while drawing 70 walks.
Otterbein Notes
- McCan was 2-for-4 with a run scored and a double. He was also hit by a pitch twice.
- Greenlief was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and the sac fly.
- Stevie Monkandilos was 2-for-3 with a run scored and two driven in.
- Jake Brown had a double, RBI and run scored.
- Andrew Nemec (0-2) picked up the loss in relief.
- Brady Heagen threw 2.1 innings of scoreless relief.
