Baseball Ends Historic Season with Pair of Wins

LONGVIEW, Texas - The UT Dallas ended the 2025 season with a double-header sweep of LeTourneau at Conrad-Vernon Field Saturday. The Comets (32-6) defeated the YellowJackets (21-18) 11-5 in seven innings, followed by a 7-6 victory.

UTD's 32-6 record breaks the program record for winning percentage at .842, besting the 2004 squad's 33-8 percentage of .805. The Comets also broke two other school records with a .462 on-base percentage and 235 walks. 

Game 1 
UTD opened the day with a four-run first inning, which included a two-run single by catcher Noah Angus. Right fielder Luke Land drove in a run in the bottom of the inning to put the YellowJackets on the board.

Thomas Soto singled and scored on a Lucas Rexin ground ball to give the Comets a 5-1 lead in the top of the fourth. LeTourneau's Dane Jones hit a solo homer in the fifth to make the game 5-2.

UTD answered with four runs on five hits in the sixth. Rexin posted an RBI-single, Jayden Chatman had a two-run double and Austin Wallace posted a run-scoring single during the rally. The YellowJackets scored three runs in the sixth to cut the deficit to 9-5.

In the seventh, Albert Garza and Trent McCown were hit by pitches, then Kole Kinnison singled in Garza. Chatman followed with a double to center, plating McCown for the final run. 

UTD outhit LETU 14-8 while both teams drew six walks.

Garza went 4-for-4 with three runs scored, a double and a stolen base. Chatman drove in four runs while going 2-for-4 with the double. McCown was 2-for-3 and scored three times. Rexin had two RBI on a pair of singles and two runs scored. 

Hayden Norris led the YellowJackets by going 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored. 

Apollo Cassimatis (6-0) lasted 5.2 innings, giving up seven hits, four earned runs and four walks with four strikeouts, earning the win. Jake Jennings posted his seventh save of the year by throwing the final 1.1 innings. Starter Dalton Pickett (2-3) took the loss, giving up seven hits, five runs and four walks with three strikeouts.

Game 2
Rexin hit a solo home run to left field in the top of the first. After LeTourneau tied it up in the third, senior Jaeger Self led off the fourth with a home run to left center - the ninth of his career. That started a four-run inning, which also included a McCown two-run blast to center. 

The YellowJackets came within one run after three in the fifth. Rexin connected with a two-run homer down the left field line in the sixth to make the game 7-4. Jones homered again to lead off the seventh and they scored again in the eighth to cut it down to 7-6. Reliever Anthony France closed out the game to earn his first save of the year.

Reliever Marcelo Carrillo II earned his first win of the season by getting out of a jam in the fifth. Landon Stocks (0-3) took the loss for LETU. 

Rexin drove in four runs and hit two home runs, moving his total to six on the year. McCown blasted his team-leading 13th of the year. Self was 2-for-5 and hit the ninth home run of his career.

McCown broke the school season record with an .836 slugging percentage. Garza broke the on-base percentage record at .575.

At the end of the season, head coach Shane Shewmake moves his career record to 650-370 (.637) over all 24 seasons of the program.
