GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - The UT Dallas men's soccer team wrapped up its season-opening trip with a 5-0 loss to Colorado Mesa Sunday at Community Hospital Unity Field.
The host Mavericks (1-0-1) scored all five goals in the final 15 minutes of the game.
The first half between the Comets (0-2) and CMU ended without a score, despite multiple attempts from both teams. UTD demonstrated strong offensive pressure, highlighted by consecutive shots from
Julio De Los Reyes and
Callum Thompson in the eighth minute, and later efforts from
Luke Harris, whose shot hit the top woodwork in the 18th minute, and
Avery Estell, whose shot was saved by Nathan Beck in the 21st minute. CMU's Manuel Ponce Casas and Justin Ibrahim had early shots, with Ibrahim hitting the left woodwork in the 27th minute.
The action intensified quickly with CMU's Joao Pedro Moraes scoring the opening goal in the 75th minute and Kamden Kooiman doubled the lead shortly after in the 77th minute, followed by Nathan Hernandez's goal in the 78th minute, assisted by Manuel Ponce Casas. Kooiman added another goal in the 87th minute, assisted by Hernandez, and Dylan Hobson completed the scoring in the 89th minute, resulting in a 5-0 victory for CMU. The Comets made several attempts on goal, but Beck was steadfast in goal, saving multiple shots, including efforts from
Kingsley Annan and
Ryan Anderson.
The Comets outshot the Mavericks 16-15 overall, but the home team led 9-5 in shots on goal.
