EDMOND, Okla. - The UT Dallas baseball team split Monday's double-header with Oklahoma Christian at Dobson Field. The host Eagles (1-2 Lone Star Conference) won the opener 9-8, while the Comets (2-1 LSC) took the nightcap 11-5 to win the series.
Game 1
- OC outhit UTD 13-9.
- The Comets opened the scoring on a two-run single by center fielder
Peyton Peoples in the second, driving in
Korson Hastings and
Gavin Barker.
- The Eagles took advantage of five hits and an error and gained a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the second.
- With two outs in the top of the fifth, left fielder
Chris Benavidez triples and scored on a wild pitch.
Jake Amoroso singled and
Trent McCown walked.
- Hastings followed with a single to right field, plating Amoroso, then Barker drove in McCown with a base hit, tying the game at 5-5.
- UTD went up 7-5 in the sixth after a pair of hit batters and an error.
- Ruben Castro hit a two-run homer to left center in the seventh to knot the contest at 7-7.
- Second baseman
Albert Garza led off the top of the eighth with a walk and later scored on a Benavidez double, giving the Comets an 8-7 advantage.
- Hank Heiselbetz led the bottom of the eighth off with a solo shot to right field to tie the game. Castro reached on an error and scored what proved to be the game-winning run on a Dylan Darnall double.
UT Dallas Highlights
- Benavidez went 2-for-5 with a double, triple, run scored and RBI.
- Garza drew three walks, stole a base and scored twice.

- Hunter Sandifer was 3-for-5 with a run scored and a RBI.
- Heiselbetz was 2-for-5 with the solo home run.
- Darnell, Trey Migl and Justin Spencer each had two hits.
- Dalin Privett (1-0) earned the win with a strikeout in two-thirds of an inning.
- Evan Ballast got the final two batters out to pick up the save.
Game 2
- The Comets started the game with three runs in the first. Amoroso had a RBI-single, Benavidez picked up a run-scoring double and
Austin Wallace bunted in a run.
- A Castro sacrifice fly that scored Heiselbetz gave the Eagles a run in the bottom of the first.
- UTD added two more runs in the second on three walks, a hit batter and two wild pitches.
- Elijah Laus singled in Tanner Forbus in the second to make it 5-2.
- OC tied the game in fifth on four hits an an error. Justin Spencer had the game-tying base hit.
- Amoroso led the seventh off with a double, and later scored on a wild pitch to give the Comets the lead.
- Bases loaded walks issued to Amoroso, McCown and
Nico Fernandez put UTD up 9-5 in the eighth. The Comets scored two more in the inning on an error.
UT Dallas Highlights
- The Comets drew 10 walks in the game.
- Garza walked and scored in his only plate appearance. He moved up to fourth place on the UTD career hit by pitch list with 25 and into eighth with 64 career walks.
- Amoroso was 2-for-4 with three runs scored, two RBI and a double.
- McCown drew three walks and scored.
- Hastings had two hits, including a double, and scored.
- Fernandez recorded a pair of hits.
- Baker scored twice and stole a base.

Luke Nielsen earned the win on the mound, striking out three and allowing one walk and a hit in three scoreless frames of relief.
