Comets Win 9-3, Complete Sweep of Buffaloes

RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas baseball team completed the three-game series sweep of West Texas A&M with a 9-3 victory at UTD Baseball Field Sunday afternoon.

The Comets (5-1 Lone Star Conference) outhit the Buffaloes (1-5 LSC) 10-6, while the pitching staff fanned nine batters.

UTD starter Seth Taylor, who kept WT hitless for 4.2 frames, set the tone by striking out three players swinging in the top of the first. 

Second baseman Albert Garza led off the bottom of the inning with a walk, moved to second on a grounder and stole third base. Chris Benavidez plated Garza with a sacrifice fly to center. Senior right fielder Trent McCown followed with a solo home run over the left field fence to give the Comets a 2-0 lead.

McCown struck again with another solo bomb in the fourth.

With two outs in the fifth, Tristin Thomas singled and later scored on a Jacob Police base hit to make the game 3-1.

UTD broke open the game with six runs on five hits in the eighth. Korson Hastings recorded a two-run single and Alex Miller connected on a three-run double in the rally.

The Buffs managed a pair of runs in the top of the ninth.



UT Dallas Performances
- McCown scored three times and was intentionally walked. His two home runs mark the 53rd time in program history a player has hit two or more in a game. McCown also moved into a tie for 10th on UTD's career home run list with 15.
- Garza walked, scored twice and stole a base.
- Miller also drew a walk to go with his three-run double.
- All nine batters in the Comets' lineup recorded a hit.
- Jake Amoroso extended his hitting streak to six games.
- Hastings finished the three-game series with nine RBI.
- Taylor (1-0) picked up his first win, striking out four runners with three walks, three hits and one run allowed over five innings.
- Tag Pacot struck out four batters in three scoreless innings.

West Texas A&M Performances
- Shortstop Luis Reyes had the only extra-base hit for the Buffs, a double.
- Left fielder Brock Bunker had a hit, RBI, walk and stole two bases.
- Starter Nick Yeager (0-1) took the loss, giving up four hits, three runs and two walks with five strikeouts in five innings.

UTD will begin the four-game Lone Star Conference series portion of the schedule at St.Mary's in San Antonio, Texas on Friday at 6 p.m.
