ALPINE, Texas - The UT Dallas women's soccer team earned its first Lone Star Conference win of the season, defeating Sul Ross State 3-0 at Lobo Soccer Field Saturday afternoon.
The win was the Comets' (5-0-1, 1-0-1 LSC) sixth consecutive shutout to start the season.
Jules Chavez started the scoring for UTD with an unassisted goal in the 17th minute.
Amy Escorza put the Comets up 2-0 in the 27th minute with an assist by
Avery Riley. Chavez found the net again in the 80th minute on a pass from
Ella Spiller.
The Comets outshot the Lobos (0-4-1, 0-2 LSC) 18-7 overall and 13-3 on goal in the game that featured a two-and-a-half-hour weather delay. UTD led in corner kicks 5-0 and both teams committed 10 fouls.
UT Dallas Notes
- Chavez recorded multiple goals for the fifth time in her career. She also became the 19th player in UTD history to reach 20 career goals.
- Escorza's goal was the first of her career.
- Spiller now leads the Comets with two assists.
- Riley's assist was her first at UTD.

Melyna Martinez recorded three saves. She is tied for second in Comet history with six consecutive shutouts and 10th with 540 straight shutout minutes.
