Welcome to the first edition of Whoosh Weekly: a recap and preview of all things UT Dallas Comets Athletics!

LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

Women's Soccer -
The Comets opened Lone Star Conference play with a 0-0 home draw against Angelo State on Wednesday, then defeated Sul Ross State 3-0 in Alpine, Texas, on Saturday. UTD is now 5-0-1 with six shutouts to start the season.

Jules Chavez scored twice against the Lobos, becoming the 19th player in program history to reach 20 career goals. Amy Escorza picked up her first career goal.

Goalkeeper Melyna Martinez is tied for second in Comet history with six consecutive shutouts and 10th with 540 straight shutout minutes. Center back Emma Best, the reigning LSC Defensive Player of the Week, has also played every minute this season.

Men's Soccer - UTD picked up a 2-1 victory at home Thursday night against Northeastern State. Forward Avery Brazzell gave the Comets an early 1-0 lead in the fifth minute. After the Riverhawks tied it up in the second half, Osi Iyamah gave UTD the victory after blasting through the defenders in the 67th minute. Keeper Ryder Claborn made five big saves to preserve the win.

Iyamah now has a team-leading four goals on the year and has scored in each of the last three games. 

The Comets are 4-1-1 on the season. Their match at Ouachita Baptist on Saturday was rained out. 

Volleyball - The Comets were swept twice at the LSC Challenge in Odessa, falling 33-31, 28-26, 25-21 to host UT Permian Basin and 25-19, 25-16, 25-19 to St. Edward's. Middle blocker Laura See is now 10th in program history by playing in 80 consecutive matches. Setter Abby Gentner moved into UTD career top with 832 assists. 

The Comets are now 4-5 entering Lone Star play.

Cross Country - The UTD women finished 12th and the men were 13th at the Texas A&M Invitational in College Station on Friday. The reigning LSC Freshman of the Week, Joan Jerono, placed 32nd with a 5K time of 18:24.3, the second-fastest time in program history after breaking the record last week. Alex Bozhilov posted a 26:00.0 on the 8K course, finishing 48th with the 20th-fastest time in Comet history.

Women's Golf -
The Comets open the season Monday and Tuesday at the RJGA Shootout at Estrella in Goodyear, Arizona.

Women's Soccer - UTD continues conference play on Wednesday at St. Mary's, 7 p.m. in San Antonio. They return home on Saturday for a 7 p.m. kickoff with Midwestern State on Crush Crew night.

Men's Soccer - The Comets travel to Sul Ross State on Thursday and to Laredo to take on Texas A&M International on Saturday. Both non-conference contests start at noon.

Volleyball - UT Dallas begins Lone Star play at Oklahoma Christian, 6 p.m. on Friday, and at Cameron, 2 p.m. on Saturday.
