JOPLIN, Mo. - The UT Dallas women's soccer team posted its fourth consecutive shutout to start the 2026 season, defeating Missouri Southern State 2-0 at Fred G. Hughes Stadium Sunday morning.
The Comets (4-0) have outscored their opponents 12-0 and outshot them 66-30 overall and 35-12 on goal so far this season.
Sunday's game with the Lions (1-2-1) was the toughest test yet for the Comets. UTD led in shots 18-13 and 9-4 on goal. Both teams took two corner kicks and host MSSU committed more fouls, 16-14.
Defender
Emma Best opened the scoring in the 31st minute on an assist from
Maya Walker.
Kyleigh D'Spain added another goal just before halftime with an unassisted score in the 43rd minute.
The Comets took four shots on goal in the second half, but keeper Bella Smith saved each one.
UT Dallas Notes
- Goalkeeper
Melyna Martinez remained perfect in goal in 2026 with four saves. She has not been scored upon in 360 minutes this season.
- Best's goal was her first as a Comet.
- D'Spain scored for the second time in as many games.
- Walker picked up her second career assist.
