Summary

Biography

Jared Smith was UTD's most productive hitter in his first season with the Comets in 2008, finding his way into the record books. Smith hit .345 while posting an all-time UTD record .739 slugging percentage. Had 28 extra-base hits (13 doubles, 2 triples, 13 home runs) in 142 at-bats. Drove in 47 runs and had nine stolen bases in just 10 attempts. Was named 2nd team American Southwest Conference All-East Division.

Made history in his first game with the Comets, going 5-for-6 against Southwestern (02/13/08) and becoming presumably the first player in UTD history to hit for the cycle.

JUNIOR COLLEGE: Played two years at Tyler JC and was part of a team that advanced to the NJCAA National Championship in 2007.

2009: .369 avg, Played and started in 46 games, 12 2b, lead team with 23 hr, also lead with 71 rbi. (finished his UTD career setting new single season and career records for home runs after knocking 23 in 2009, tops in the national NCAA Division III statistical standings. )

HIGH SCHOOL: He was a two-time all-district performer at New Caney HS on a team that twice advanced to the regional finals. Also a two-time team MVP and all-district basketball player.
