Drew Waggoner will enter the 2009 season as the Comets' most seasoned starting pitcher after two seasons in the starting rotation.

Became a starter in 2007, compiling a 6-2 record with 4.22 ERA. Threw three complete games in 12 starts. Using an effective curveball, he struck out 51 hitters in 70.1 innings of work. Tied a school record by throwing a 1-0 seven-inning one-hitter against Louisiana College on March 17, 2007.

On April 12, 2008, he pitched a second one-hitter, but became the hard-luck loser in a 1-0 loss to East Texas Baptist that eliminated the Comets from the post-season. He finished the season with a 4.91 ERA, but was 2-5 despite five complete games. Struck out 65 hitters in 58.2 innings of work and held opponents to a .259 batting average.

After missing the 2005 season with a hand injury, Waggoner made 10 appearances and posted a 5.61 ERA in 2006. He has already earned his undergraduate degree and is UTD's MBA program. Earned two American Southwest Conference Academic All-Conference awards.

HIGH SCHOOL: Was on a two-time district championship team at Dallas Hillcrest HS, and was co-MVP of his district. Also played golf.
