Biography

Johnny Martinez, a transfer from Division I North Carolina-Asheville, is one of the leading candidates to take over at first base for the Comets in 2009.

COLLEGE: Martinez started 36 games for UNC-Charlotte in 2006 before hurting his hand and missing the entire 2007 season. Hit .255 as a freshman with 7 extra-base hits. Played 22 games in 2008, hitting .250.

2009: .275 avg, Played in 41 games started 39, 13 2b, 6 hr, 30 rbi

HIGH SCHOOL: Martinez was a team MVP at Dallas Jesuit HS, hitting .405 with 12 home runs his senior year. Signed with Division I UNC-Asheville.
