Former Comet Daniel Shofner was hired as the UT Dallas men's and women's golf assistant in August 2026, after completing one of the most decorated playing careers in program history.
A five-year letterwinner and team captain for the Comets, Shofner competed for UTD from 2019-25 and helped the program to an American Southwest Conference Championship in 2023, an ASC runner-up finish in 2024, and NCAA Championship appearances in both seasons The Lewisville, Texas, native concluded his career as one of the top players in school history, earning 2022-23 PING/GCAA First Team All-America honors, two PING All-Region selections (2022-23, 2023-24), two All-ASC First Team honors (2022-23, 2023-24), and the 2022-23 UT Dallas Male Athlete of the Year award.
In 2024, Shofner captured the American Southwest Conference individual championship, becoming just the third individual medalist in program history after winning a playoff at the conference tournament.
Shofner's name is prominent throughout the UT Dallas record book. During his standout 2023-24 season, he averaged 73.21 strokes per round, set a school single-season record with 86 birdies, and became the program's career leader in birdies with 218 while tying the school record with seven career eagles. He also produced one of the finest seasons in school history in 2022-23, earning First Team All-America recognition while setting a then-school-record 73.65 scoring average.
As a graduate student and team captain in 2024-25, Shofner competed in all eight tournaments for the Comets, posting a 73.96 scoring average with 62 birdies, two eagles, four top-10 finishes, and a season-low round of 65. Throughout his career, he was also recognized for his work in the classroom, earning Academic All-ASC honors four times and selection to the ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Team in 2022-23.
In addition to his playing accomplishments, Shofner served as a team captain who worked closely with the coaching staff on lineup decisions, player development, and team leadership. He acted as a liaison between players and coaches while helping maintain the program's standards in practice, competition, and academics.
Away from campus, Shofner has gained golf industry experience as a caddie at Northwood Club in Dallas, assisting players with course management, club selection, and tournament operations.
Shofner earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Innovation & Entrepreneurship) from UT Dallas in 2023 and a Master of Science in International Management with a concentration in Business Analytics in 2024.
